SUMMARY: Conduct research in space astrophysics by developing missions and instruments to make observations of astrophysical phenomenon; write proposals to acquire funding to perform research; recruit staff members needed to build a group of astrophysicists; mentor younger staff members beginning careers in astrophysics.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Requires a PhD degree in Astronomy or Physics with 10 years experience past the PhD level in high energy astrophysics. Must have at least a 3.0 GPA. Must have experience in the design of instrumentation needed for space astrophysics; experience with space science mission operations; experience in mission planning and design. A valid/clear driver's license is required.
