Job Summary:

    Conduct failure analysis and applied research projects involving metals, advanced materials and coatings in diverse applications using a wide range of materials and chemical characterization tools; interact with both government and commercial clients to develop and execute specific project scopes; provide timely reports and briefings to clients; identify funding opportunities in the failure analysis and materials research areas, consistent with our overall mission and goals; prepare research proposals in response to solicitations; help identify equipment needs and operating practices to improve laboratory performance; participate in the development and implementation of the business development strategy for the failure analysis and materials research area.

Education/Experience:

    Requires a BS and MS in Metallurgy or Materials Science, PhD preferred, with at least a 3.0 GPA and 10 years experience in failure analysis, physical and mechanical metallurgy, materials characterization and materials R&D. Must have experience developing and preparing innovative research proposals; must be able to apply materials engineering knowledge to solve challenging problems; must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; must have experience in project management; good interpersonal skills is required; must be able to work independently and in a team environment; must have intimate knowledge of failure analysis and metallurgical evaluation tools and techniques; must have a strong foundation in mechanical and physical metallurgy and basic understanding of fracture mechanics and environmental degradation of materials; specific knowledge of structural alloys, aircraft materials, welding and non-metallic’s is desired.

    Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen.
