SR. RESEARCH ENGINEER (SEISMIC RISK ANALYSES) Job code: 20-00743*


Job Summary:

    Review and evaluate reports involving structural and mechanical aspects of seismic risk analyses; conduct independent risk analyses using proprietary and commercially available computer codes; prepare technical reports and make oral presentations; participate in seismic walk downs of nuclear facilities. Office based work, site visits, and inspections.

Education/Experience:

    Requires an M.S. or Ph.D. in Nuclear, Mechanical or Civil Engineering with additional course work in seismic risk engineering, seismic risk assessment, probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) and probabilistic seismic hazard analysis and at least a 3.5 GPA. Must have certified specialized training in performing seismic risk assessments of structures, systems, and components (SSC) important to safety (ITS) related to nuclear facilities, such as nuclear power plants (NPP) and independent spent fuel storage installations (ISFSI). Must have 7 years experience with a M.S. or 5 years experience with PhD. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills. Must demonstrated expertise in the following: (a) seismic fragility evaluation of nuclear facilities, including (1) structural fragility, (2) component fragility, and (3) fragility methods and fragility curve construction; (b) seismic margin analysis including (1) NRC/EPRI methods, (2) high confidence of low probability of failure (HCLPF), and (3) fault tree construction; (c) seismic PRA and hazard assessment including (1) seismic hazard curve development and (2) ASME standards for PRA. Candidate must be familiar with the major structural and mechanical systems of ISFSIs or NPPs and understand how seismic loads affect their safety functions. A valid/clear driver's license is required. Must pass a conflict of interest evaluation.
