PRINCIPAL ENGINEER/PRINCIPAL SCIENTIST/SR. RESEARCH SCIENTIST (CORROSION) Job code: 20-00746*


Job Summary:

    Conduct applied research on corrosion processes affecting the performance of piping and other metallic components used in transmission pipelines, hydrocarbon extraction and power plant applications; apply numerical and statistical modeling techniques to interpret the results of laboratory and field observations, develop practical guidelines for monitoring schedules, participate in development and deployment of monitoring systems, and assess materials and equipment aging and life-expectancy; work with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement laboratory and field testing protocols and probabilistic failure risk assessment models; develop proposals for external funding from commercial and governmental organizations, maintaining effective client communications and project management, preparing professional papers, and making presentations to professional organizations and trade groups.

Education/Experience:

    Requires a MS or PhD degree in Material Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field with emphasis on mathematical and experimental modeling of electrochemical corrosion processes and at least a 3.5 GPA. For Masters, must have 7 years of research or industry experience applying numerical and statistical methods to interpretation of laboratory and field data related to the performance and failure analysis of metallic components, including equipment, piping, and storage vessels. For PhD, must have 5 years or research or industry experience applying numerical and statistical methods to interpretation of laboratory and field data related to the performance and failure analysis of metallic components, including equipment, piping, and storage vessels. PhD degree preferred. Applied experience in the hydrocarbon or chemical processing industry is considered a plus; must have experience developing and implementing technical approaches to solve customer problems; must be able to promote activities; proposal development experience is considered a plus; must have good oral and written communication skills; must be an effective team member; must be able to work independently with relatively little supervision and function effectively as part of project teams. A valid/clear driver's license is required.
