SAFETY SCIENTIST/ SR. SAFETY SCIENTIST (ENVIROMENTAL AND SAFETY SYSTEMS) Job code: 57-00532*


Job Summary:

    Review existing policies and operating procedures related to safety programs and OSHA regulations; conduct visits of research facilities; facilitate job safety and hazards analysis of research projects; identify and provide recommendations for engineering controls; personnel training and safety procedures; perform construction safety reviews and evaluation of contractor compliance; perform industrial hygiene evaluations of research facilities to assess personnel exposure levels; implement process, training and equipment changes as needed to improve personnel protection; perform ergonomic evaluations; implement safe work permit process and lock-out/tag-out permit process; review and revise technical content of safety training modules; assess potential fire risk to facilities from operations and research projects and work with consultants to perform code compliance reviews; perform emergency response activities as needed.

Education/Experience:

    Requires a BS degree in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Chemistry and related fields with at least a 3.0 GPA and 3 years experience with Process Safety Management and OSHA compliance. Board Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred. Must be able to work in a rapid pace environment to support Project Engineers, Scientists, Technicians, Craft personnel, and Administrative staff; must possess strong written and oral communication skills; must have the ability to adapt and change priorities as needs arise; must be punctual and able to work occasional long hours to support research projects or after work hours if emergency situations arise. Must be willing and able to travel occasionally. A valid/clear driver's license is required.
