ENGINEER/RESEARCH ENGINEER (FLUID MACHINERY) Job code: 18-00926*


Job Summary:

    Perform the evaluation and analysis of problems in fluid machinery and the associated plant systems; design machinery, tools and instrumentation; prepare and/or run models of fluid handling machinery and piping systems to identify behaviors, responses to inputs, performance values and changes with operating conditions; assist in the development of software and diagnostic tools to enhance data collection and analysis, machinery system modeling, machinery problem solving and the design of improved fluid handling machinery and systems; conduct data collection and analysis to perform hydraulic analysis to provide recommendations or possible solutions for improvements in systems’ operation; conduct laboratory research required by clients directed at finding solutions and advancements for fluid handling machinery; independently write technical reports, proposals and technical presentations; participate in conferences and other events to actively promote SwRI business.

Education/Experience:

    Requires a BS or MS degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Petroleum or Civil Engineering with at least a 3.0 GPA and 2 years experience in fluid mechanics. Must have hydraulic modeling capabilities to create and analyze pipeline models for liquid and gas systems; must have understanding of compressor and pump stations operation; must have background in fluids mechanics and/or fluid transport; must develop hydraulic models to analyze issues such as de-bottlenecking, system optimization, leaks, transient events, water hammer, surge, ESDs and conduct what-if analysis and develop simulation tools; must provide engineering expertise to analyze hydraulic issues. A valid/clear driver's license is required.
