RESEARCH SCIENTIST/SCIENTIST (CORROSION)

Job Summary:
- Assist senior staff in the performance of laboratory studies and technical services related to the corrosion and environmental degradations of materials over a broad range of application areas including: the oil and gas industry, the nuclear industry, the transportation industry, and various government agencies; be responsible for managing and performing testing related to specific subtasks of a project;interact with senior staff and technicians to ensure the assigned tasks are completed on time and within budget; conduct a broad range of standard and advanced corrosion and electrochemical tests; assist with the development and testing of new measurement techniques and corrosion monitoring/sensing techniques; design corrosion tests to meet clients needs and work with laboratory technicians to complete testing based on defined test procedures and verbal instruction; analyze and summarize data and contribute to project reports and technical papers; interact with clients on an as needed basis to implement testing programs.
Education/Experience:
- Requires a BS or MS degree in Materials Science, Corrosion Science or Engineering, or Chemical Engineering with at least a 3.0 GPA. Masters degree requires a thesis directly related to corrosion science and/or engineering. Coursework in corrosion science, electrochemistry and/or corrosion short course would be helpful. The Scientist level applicant must have 0-5 years of experience in a corrosion lab setting - experience must include the use of electrochemical equipment to study corrosion and proficiency in running these tests should be demonstrated. The Research Scientist applicant must have performed at least 2 years of work specializing in corrosion science or engineering. Must have a knowledge of the basic forms and mechanisms of corrosion to include: general corrosion, localized (pitting and crevice) corrosion, galvanic corrosion and environmental assisted cracking; must have an understanding of electrochemical techniques as applied to the study of corrosion - such techniques include (but are not limited to) various electrochemical polarization techniques and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy; must have demonstrated skills in the appropriate use of these techniques and the ability to accurately interpret the resulting data for the study of corrosion; ability to validate data and draw logical conclusions from multiple types of data (to include visual observations and surface microscopies); a demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing is required. A valid/clear driver's license is required.
