POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER (OUTER SOLAR SYSTEM) (BOULDER, COLORADO) Job code: 15-01089*


Job Summary:

    Assist in planning and verifying observations and downlink for New Horizons annual checkouts and Pluto encounter plans; will entail collecting inputs from science team members for science activity plans at Pluto and during annual checkouts; help devise data downlink plans for contingency sequences at Pluto and during annual checkouts; help instrument teams confirm their observation sequences and data downlink.

Education/Experience:

    Requires a PhD degree in Planetary Science with at least a 3.0 GPA. PhD must be received within the last 3 years. Must be knowledgeable in science areas related to the New Horizons science goals. This includes, but is not limited to and understanding of thin atmospheres, infrared spectra of icy surfaces, and UV spectroscopy. The applicant needs to understand the questions that are being investigated by the New Horizons spacecraft. A valid/clear driver's license is required.

Special Considerations:

    Note: Work assignment is in Boulder, Colorado. Must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident due to ITAR work in section. This is a 1 year limited term assignment with a possible extension.
