RESEARCH ENGINEER/SR. RESEARCH ENGINEER (FLIGHT INSTRUMENTS) (WASHINGTON, D.C./METRO AREA) Job code: 15-01100*


Job Summary:

    Contribute to the initial and final integration and test activities of various flight instruments. Specific duties may include daily contact with space flight hardware (GSFC safety, cleanroom, etc.); follow written test procedures; develop/maintain processes and procedures for assembly and test of systems; detailed hand written logging of test deviations and anomalies - legible handwriting/printing is required; coordination of integrations activities with the I&T Manager, Lead Test Conductor, Systems Engineer, and Customer; incorporation of design or requirement changes to the test procedures and scripts; documentation and disposition of hardware discrepancies including pursuit of root cause and corrective action; design and development of tooling such as CSTOL or python scripts or written instructions to aid in the integration and test procedures; assisting in preparation and presentation of associated material for test readiness reviews (TRRs), failure review boards (FRBs), or as assigned by the Lead Test Conductor and/or I&T Manager; leading engineering team in the execution of electrical IS systems testing at the IS level as well as at the Observatory (Obs) level; candidate must be able to work, remotely, independently, as well as in a team environment, to complete assignments without direct supervision.

Education/Experience:

    Requires a BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent with at least a 3.0 GPA. Must have 5+ years of demonstrated technical expertise in integration and testing (I&T) activities at the instrument suite (IS) and observatory (Obs) levels for spacecraft vehicles. Proficiency in GSEOS, CSTOL, python, SVN, DOORS, ISO9001: 2008 is required; direct and demonstrated experience in IS and Obs level I&T activities for spaceflight hardware is desired; proven ability to work in a team environment as well as independently in person and remotely. Position will be part of the MMS Instrument Suite (IS) Integration and Test (I&T) team based at Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD. Shift work required. A valid/clear driver's license is required.

    Note: Work assignment is in Washington, D.C./Metro Area. Must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident due to ITAR work in section. This is a 2 year limited term assignment.
