ENGINEER/RESEARCH ENGINEER (TURBOMACHINERY) Job code: 18-00944*


Job Summary:

    Perform the evaluation and analysis of problems in turbomachinery and the associated plant systems; design machinery, tools, and instrumentation; prepare and/or run finite element and rotordynamic models of turbomachinery to identify behaviors, responses to inputs, performance values and changes with operating conditions; assist in the development of software and diagnostic tools to enhance data collection and analysis, machinery system modeling, machinery problem solving and the design of improved fluid handling machinery and systems; knowledge of machine design and computational fluid dynamics desirable; conduct laboratory research required by clients and directed at finding solutions and advancements for turbomachinery; conduct data collection and analysis to perform performance and mechanical evaluation of equipment to provide recommendations or possible solutions for improvements in systems’ operation; independently write technical reports, proposals and technical presentations; participate in conferences and other events to actively promote SwRI business.

Education/Experience:

    Requires a BS, MS or PhD degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with at least a 3.0 GPA. Basic understanding of compressor and pump stations operation desired. Background in fluids mechanics and/or fluid transport desired. Machine design experience with knowledge of finite element analysis and solid modeling desired. A valid/clear driver's license is required.
