ENGINEER/RESEARCH ENGINEER (SOFTWARE DESIGN) Job code: 10-00853*


Job Summary:

    Provide support to the Cooperative Systems Section (CSS) in the development of software tools and solutions for the modeling, simulation, and analysis of interconnected vehicle-based systems, in both commercial and military domains; use agent-based modeling techniques to create, modify, or enhance models of these systems, and develop data analysis techniques and tools for the analysis of simulation results; systems of interest include traffic systems’ behavior with and without the use of connected vehicle technologies, such as vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) and vehicle-to-infrastructure (V2I), and the effect of autonomous/automated vehicle technology; investigate alternative methods for providing vehicle- and system-level security for connected vehicle systems; also of interest are smaller-scale cooperative systems, such as cooperative vehicle platooning, localized cooperative sensor sharing, small-scale situational awareness sharing cooperative perimeter patrol, and multi-model cooperative systems such as UGV/UAV; provide hardware and software design support for vehicle-based technologies, up to and including fully-autonomous vehicles; initiate advanced research and development programs in-line with the section business interests; participate in efforts to promote the R&D work of the section; interact with clients, and make technical presentations.

Education/Experience:

    Requires a BS or MS degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering, or Computer Science with at least a 3.5 GPA. Must have 0-5 years relevant experience in the development of software tools for the purpose of modeling, simulation, and/or data analysis with a firm understanding of decentralized control theory and agent-based modeling techniques and relevant coursework or experience in biomimetic systems. BS must have at least 1 year relevant experience, which may include internships or senior-level design projects. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well individually or as a member of a project team; must have excellent written and verbal communication skills; must have experience developing within Linux and Windows operating systems; must be proficient in C++, with experience using C# or Java. A valid/clear driver's license is required.

    Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen.
