SwRI: Component Design and Evaluation Services. Advanced Vehicle Technology Component Design and Testing Services

Design and evaluation services on the full range of vehicle components and systems can be performed by the Advanced Vehicle Technology staff at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI). Depending on client needs, we examine and report on simple to comprehensive component requirements.

Vehicle Component Evaluation Areas

Some specific component testing areas include:

  • Kinematics

  • Stability

  • Structural integrity

  • Vibration

  • Noise

  • Modal analysis

Advantages of Vehicle Component Evaluation

Isolation of vehicle components allows for much more rigorous testing and performance evaluation for a particular piece of equipment. Component evaluation serves many client needs, such as:

  • Design improvement

  • Durability analysis

  • Failure analysis

  • Benchmarking parameters against competitive products

  • Virtual model development

Vehicle Component Evaluation Facilities

Component development is approached holistically, with research and evaluation making use of readily available testing facilities and hardware, including:

  • Laboratory

  • Dynamometer stand

  • Full vehicle test track

  • On- and off-road testing
