Drivetrain engineering analysis and simulation capabilities at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) include three-dimensional modeling of components and systems using software tools such as EASY5, ANSYS, Pro/ENGINEER, and Fluent.

Component analyses can predict life of the part and the maximum allowable loading conditions. This service is a vital part of the iterative nature of the design process and is essential to achieving an optimal design. Subsystems analyses can be used to evaluate component interactions.

System level analysis at the design stage is important to predict the interaction between subsystems, so that the design can be properly defined early in the design cycle.

The major time-consuming effort in analysis is proper modeling of the components and subsystems. SwRI has analysis experience in gear tooth meshing stress evaluation, clutch pack thermal analysis, first principal models to predict rolling element bearing, and bushing stresses. SwRI performs linear, nonlinear, and modal analyses to achieve project goals.
