Pacemaker programmer

Heart pacemaker electronics include microprocessors that control the pacemaker, which subsequently controls the patient's heartbeat.

 

Physicians can communicate with the pacemaker's microprocessors noninvasively. The procedure, called pacemaker programming, uses a separate device to transmit commands to the implanted unit. This device allows the physician to modify the pacemaker therapy to match the changing needs of the patient.

 

Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) software engineers developed the pacemaker software for this advanced touch-screen programmer. Because this software is critical to the device and the patient's health, it contains sophisticated checks to prevent misprogramming.
