Embedded systems have been evaluated, developed, deployed, and verified for more than 20 years by the Embedded System Group of Southwest Research Institute (SwRI).


The staff maintains a system focus and excels in forming small, interdisciplinary teams to solve clients' difficult real-time and embedded systems problems. SwRI provides services ranging from turn-key system development to system engineering and system integration services, to short-term consulting agreements.

Embedded systems technology includes:

The Embedded Systems staff has developed many real-time and embedded systems including:

  • Device drivers for Windows NT and 2000, Unix/Linux, and VxWorks™

  • Field calibrator interface protocol software systems

  • Flight software for science instruments and command and data handling

  • Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation systems

  • Real-time networking systems

  • Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) Board Support Packages (BSPs)

  • Robotic control software

  • Signal processing and real-time video/audio compression systems

  • Spacecraft interface simulators

  • Telephone monitoring systems
