Uplink and Downlink Processing

Complete uplink command processing and downlink telemetry formatting to support a variety of transponder interfaces and telemetry data formats are provided by CCSDS modules from Southwest Research Institute (SwRI).

 

SwRI CCSDS modules have flown on or are in development for the following missions:

Capabilities Provided by SwRI CCSDS Command and Telemetry Modules

  • Uplink command processing

    • Interfaces for SDST, SGLS, and STDN transponders

    • Uplink command rates of 125 Kbps

    • BCH error detect and correct

    • Full COP1 protocol (including CLCW)

    • Ability to autonomously execute safe mode (level 0) commands in the absence of flight software

  • Downlink telemetry formatting

    • Up to 2 fully independent telemetry formatter engines supporting up to 4 hardware virtual channels each

    • Telemetry encoding/encryption options: Reed Solomon Encoding, AES Encryption, CRC, Turbo Encoding

    • Downlink telemetry rates up to 100 Mbps

    • Autonomous safe-mode telemetry collection and downlinking in the absence of flight software

  • Safe mode (level zero) resources

    • Up to 48 high-level discrete pulse outputs

    • Up to 16 low-level discrete pulse/level outputs

    • 32 analog single-ended/differential inputs (12-bit ADC)

    • 32 bi-level inputs

  • Memory

    • 2 mB of scratch-pad SRAM

    • 1 mB of health and status telemetry storage with dedicated autonomous downlink channel

  • MIL-STD-1553B BC/RT

  • System watchdogtimer

  • 52-bit mission elapsed timer

  • Bus interfaces available:  cPCI, VME, or custom

  • Form factors available:  6U, extended 6U, and custom
