SwRI: Product Evaluation, Anodes for Cathodic Protection, Corrosion Testing and Research

Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) conducts independent tests to evaluate the performance of anodes used in cathodic protection systems. Tests are conducted under controlled soil resistivity and cathodic protection conditions.

Currently, there are no clear guidelines about how to select anodes; therefore, independent testing is of interest. In addition, the useable lifetime of the anodes is not well known because consumption rate data is typically available from vendors. Tests conducted were designed to measure consumption rates and provide a side-by-side comparison of relative performance of multiple anodes.
