SwRI earns its second Lockheed Martin STAR Supplier Award

For immediate release

San Antonio — February 20, 2012 — Lockheed Martin Corporation's Electronics Systems Business Area (ESBA) has recognized Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) with its STAR Supplier Award for 2011.

The STAR Supplier award recognizes exemplary suppliers to Lockheed Martin who distinguish themselves by meeting some of the most stringent performance criteria in the aerospace industry. Lockheed Martin officials presented the award at the Institute.

To earn STAR Supplier status, SwRI met the established criteria for Lockheed Martin's Supplier Performance Evaluation metric that evaluates quality, delivery, affordability and management/administration. The Institute achieved 98 percent quality and 98 percent delivery for all products provided to Lockheed Martin for a minimum of a year.

Lockheed Martin uses the Supplier Performance Evaluation metric to assess suppliers' performance in their evaluation categories. Suppliers can achieve STAR recognition on three levels: distributor, production and subcontractor services.

"Our staff has worked very hard to earn this prestigious award," said Richard D. Somers, vice president of SwRI's Aerospace Electronics, Systems Engineering and Training Division. The processes, skills and work ethic that led to the award are the result of more than 15 years of collaborative effort.

"It is even more significant for us because this is the second time Lockheed Martin has recognized the Institute with a STAR Supplier award," Somers added. SwRI previously received STAR Supplier recognition in 2008.
