| Earthquake Testing |
 |
| Dynamic testing to simulate earthquake motion is performed in the laboratory utilizing either a single axis or multiaxis electrohydraulic shaker table. Products are exposed to simulated earthquake motion to determine their functionality and mechanical/structural integrity to give a high degree of confidence to the end user that the product will perform in service. Structural and mechanical analyses can also be utilized in support of
Earthquake Testing on structures and/or product that cannot be accomodated by the table due to large size or weight. |

| Elevated Temperature Testing |
 |
| Facilities at SwRI are capable of exposing products to elevated temperatures. Moderate temperature extremes less that 350 degrees Fahrenheit (177 degrees Celsius) can be accomplished in standard environmental chambers. Electric and Gas convection furnaces are available for high temperature extremes to simulate fires. A variety of heater systems are utilized to provide combination conditions such as high temperature material characterization, high temperature/pressure, and temperature/vibration testing. |

| Emission Monitoring |
 |
| Emission monitoring includes the sampling or characterization of industrial process effluents. These can be monitored in all environmental media to include air, soil, and water. Monitoring is primarily conducted to verify operating permit conditions. Emission monitoring can be used to investigate the cause of process upsets or to evaluate process performance during startup. |

| Emissions Analysis by GC/MS |
 |
| This analysis is intended for the analysis of semi-volatile organic compounds captured on Teflon impregnated glass fiber (TIGF) filters and/or polyurethane foam (PUF)/XAD-2 resin traps during engine exhaust emission
tests. Types of organic compounds could include polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), nitro-polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (N-PAHs), mono-, di- and trimethylated PAHs, hydrocarbons (C10 through C25 straight-chain and branched), alkyl benzenes, alkyl cyclohexanes, tetralines, etc. Exact target list is to be discussed prior to the on set of analysis. The mass spectrometer can be operated in either full scan or SIM (selected ion monitoring) mode to meet the project objectives. |

| Engine Wear Test--Diesel/Heavy Duty |
 |
| Div 03 applies radioactive tracer technology to measure engine component wear, in real-time, during engine operation. We apply this technology to automotive and heavy-duty engines. Div. 08 provides heavy duty diesel wear testing as a normal function of lubricant evaluations they perform. Consequently, they also provide wear testing for parts and material changes when desired. |

| For Division 20, we offer full services in conducting environmental impact assessments to meet the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). We review environmental documents, and prepare NEPA documents such as categorical exclusions, environmental assessments, and environmental impact statements. We also offer customized training in reviewing NEPA documents for compliance with procedural requirements. |

| Environmental Fluid Modeling |
 |
| Engineering and computational analysis in Div. 18 involves the release of vapors and liquids from chemical plants, storage facilities, tankers, etc. These are usually accompished to accompany a hazard and risk analysis of chemical exposure or fires and explosions. Div. 20 -- modeling of water flow and contaminant transport through saturated and unsaturated porous and fractured geological media. |

| Environmental Stress Screening (ESS) |
 |
| Division 18 has the capability of performing the two components of environmental stress screening (vibration and temperature). These two environments are to be simulated simultaneously for environmental stress screening. This type of testing is usually performed by a manufacturer to screen failures in large lots of identical equipment, and SwRI currently has limited capability in this area. |
