The SwRI Component-Analysis Group has a scanning-electron microscope that is equipped with a Noran energy-dispersive x-ray elemental-analysis system. The analyzer has a light-element detector, so it can detect all elements except hydrogen, helium, lithium, and beryllium. Software associated with the analysis system facilitates both qualitative and standardless quantitative analyses, as well as dot mapping.
