Free Webinar: An Initial Look at Updating Engineering Models to the Modern Era

Join us Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at 12:00 p.m.–1:00 p.m. (U.S. Central Time)

Hosts: Jarred Deeley

This presentation takes a look at the concern of aging engineering models that still use FORTRAN.

It briefly covers the issues of maintaining old FORTRAN models and the potential benefits of updating to modern Fortran or a different language.

A toy benchmark compares a selection of languages to show which languages come close to matching Fortran's speed while bringing in other useful features.

The presentation makes the argument that a subset of older Fortran models have the potential to benefit from a refactor to a different language such as Rust.
