For 40 years, SwRI has worked on design and development with manufacturers of high- and medium-speed engines to improve fuel economy, performance, and emissions. To address research, mechanical, and performance development, and evaluations of fuel and lubricants, SwRI has more than 200 engine dynamometer test cells ranging up to 7,000 hp and multiple locomotive test tracks.
Southwest Research Institute offers prototype and production development of dual-fuel engines for high horsepower applications that achieve EPA Tier 4f emission levels with reduced aftertreatment and high natural gas substitution.
