Free Webinar: An Introduction to Torsional Analysis

Join us Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at 12:00 p.m.–1:00 p.m. (U.S. Central Time)

Hosts: Justin Hollingsworth and Chris Kulhanek

A properly conducted torsional analysis can improve machine reliability and mitigate the risk to personnel safety. Problems related to torsional rotordynamics often go undetected when relying on typical package instrumentation alone which can result in unexpected catastrophic failures. This webinar will provide an introduction to torsional analyses covering topics related to reciprocating and centrifugal compressors, gearboxes, synchronous and induction motors, variable frequency drives, couplings, engines, and viscous dampers. The components of a complete analysis will be discussed, to include mass elastic model preparation, steady state torsional frequencies and mode shapes, interference diagrams, forced response stress analysis, and transient cumulative fatigue analysis. Specific topics such as: model fidelity, proper characterization of damping, effective methods of shifting troublesome critical speeds, and appropriate techniques for torsional field testing, will also be included.
