SwRI aerospace division earns ISO 9001:2000 certification

November 19, 2008 — The Aerospace Electronics and Information Technology Division of Southwest Research Institute® (SwRI®) has announced certification of its quality system to ISO 9001:2000.

The certification resulted from an eight-year program to develop quality procedures following an earlier version of the standard, ISO 9001:1994. A major revision was completed in 2006 to the current version, ISO 9001:2000, as implemented by the division quality council and its off-site offices.

National Quality Assurance (NQA-USA) performed audit and registration services for the division's certification.

"ISO registration is an important standard for both government and industry work, particularly in the aerospace field," said Richard Somers, division vice president. "It also represents major progress toward certification to the next-higher standard, SAE AS9100 Quality Management Systems, which the division hopes to achieve in 2009."

The Aerospace Electronics and Information Technology Division is the fourth of SwRI's 11 technical divisions to achieve ISO 9001:2000 certification. SwRI divisions also have achieved ISO 14001 and ISO/IEC Guide 25 accreditation. The Ford Motor Company has designated SwRI a Tier 1 product development engineering services supplier and has awarded the Institute its Q1-2000 award.
