Breslof receives SRA International Hartford-Nicholsen Award

Aug. 28, 2013 — Midge J. Breslof, a staff specialist in Southwest Research Institute's Space Science and Engineering Division, has been selected to receive the Hartford-Nicholsen Award from the Society of Research Administrators International. The award is given for "distinguished contributions to research administration."

Breslof specializes in contract, subcontract and project resources management concerned with developing scientific instruments and related hardware for space exploration. She joined the SwRI staff in 1999 following employment at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, where she was a member of the acquisitions staff.

At JPL/Caltech she was involved in project management as the science payload contracts and resources manager for the Advanced Composition Explorer (ACE) mission, as the acquisition manager of the Space Technology-4 of the New Millennium Program and as procurement administrator for Project Galileo and Ulysses.

At SwRI, Breslof has served as the business liaison between her division and SwRI contracts administration and has been involved in cost preparation and reporting for the New Horizons, Juno and MMS missions.

Breslof has been an active member of SRA International for 20 years and currently serves as chair of both the Financial Management Certificate Committee and the Education and Professional Development Committee. She has been honored as an SRA International Distinguished Faculty member since 2007 and received its Western Section Excellence Award in 2011.

She is the recipient of the NASA Exceptional Service Medal (1994), five NASA Group Achievement Awards (1993, 1998, 2002, 2007 and 2013) and the European Space Agency Group Achievement Award (2004).

Breslof holds a master’s of business administration degree in executive management from the Peter F. Drucker and Masatoshi Ito Graduate School of Management and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Wilkes University. She is the author or co-author of more than a dozen publications and presentations concerned with project management and contracting.

Breslof will receive the award at the 2013 SRA International Annual Meeting, to be held Oct. 26–30 in New Orleans.
