Caption:
An SwRI-led team imaged the August 12, 2026, eclipse using NASA’s WB-57 research aircraft flying above heavy clouds off the coast of Iceland. NASA’s SAMI, attached to the aircraft’s nose, captured the Sun’s corona and a prominence at the southeast limb in wavelengths ranging from visible to infrared light. The prominence is most easily seen glowing pink in visible light associated with hydrogen alpha emissions. This image was captured at approximately 17:45 UT.
