The Synthesis and Process Chemistry laboratories at SwRI can handle multiple chemical reaction types, as well as a diverse range of reaction scales, including larger scale walk-in hoods and equipment.

By screening multiple chemical reactions or crystallization methods in parallel, chemists in the Synthesis and Process Chemistry group at SwRI can quickly and efficiently optimize process conditions.
Custom Synthesis
Whether Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) clients' synthesis needs are the generation of milligram quantities of known materials or the development of a synthetic route to produce kilograms of a new compound, SwRI's synthetic chemistry team is equipped to provide rapid turnaround on competitive proposal generation and has an excellent track record of meeting deliverables on-time.
Process R&D
The Synthesis and Process Chemistry section provides process development services including:
- Solubility determination and crystallization development
- Salt selection and polymorph screening
- Statistical evaluation of process variables leading to optimization
- Scale-up of processes to 200 liters
- Determination of critical processing parameters
- New synthesis route evaluation and development
Radiolabeled Synthesis
SwRI is certified for handling radioactive substances, and has a dedicated facility for handling and preparation of radiolabeled materials. The Synthesis and Process Chemistry team has experience in producing 14C-labeled APIs for in-vitro studies.
