Medicinal Chemistry/Lead Optimization
Synthesis & Process Chemistry

At SwRI, experienced chemists perform multistep synthesis of target compounds using a large variety of synthesis techniques and expertise.
Lead optimization is the process by which the chemical structure of a viable drug lead is modified in an iterative way to generate more active and/or more selective compounds.
Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) pharmaceutical industry-trained scientists offer their wide-ranging drug discovery experiences to assist clients' lead optimization needs. SwRI regularly uses an Accelrys Modeling system with a new Discovery Studio® to carry out structure-based compound design and QSAR studies. Syntheses of a wide variety of structural types have been completed in the Synthesis and Process Chemistry Section, meeting clients' new materials needs.
