The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is holding the 2024 Workshop on Storage and Transportation of TRISO and Metal Spent Nuclear Fuels as a virtual event on December 3rd to 5th, 2024. The workshop is being held in coordination with the DOE Office of Nuclear Energy and EPRI, with assistance from the Center for Nuclear Waste Regulatory Analyses.
The workshop will be focused on research on technical and regulatory considerations for spent fuel management pertaining to advanced nuclear fuels.
To prepare for potential future licensing and certification reviews, NRC will benefit from gaining knowledge about industry approaches to storage and transportation of these advanced reactor fuels. NRC will also convey regulatory process information to better prepare industry.
Sessions are arranged by technical areas with each session including an opening presentation followed by expert presentations and discussions. Breakout sessions led by NRC staff will also gather information to help NRC assess the need for additional regulatory guidance updates.
