Training Simulators for Compressor and Pump Stations

Downtime at compressor and pump stations is very expensive, especially for offshore applications. Therefore, it is very important that operators are properly trained to run equipment and handle any potential upset conditions. Training simulators can be used to simulate important procedures and upset conditions, such as:

  • Start-up
  • Normal shutdown
  • Emergency shutdown
  • Blockage
  • Anti-surge valve fails open
  • Change in operating conditions
  • Sudden valve closures

Southwest Research Institute® (SwRI®) develops training simulators for both gas and liquid operations. The simulators are built in two parts. First a human-machine interface is developed to mimic the control screens of the actual equipment. Second is a computational model which will run in the background and calculate the current operating conditions while reacting to any commands made by the trainee. SwRI will develop the computational model such that it represents all of the major components of your system.

Field performance services can also be provided to validate the training simulator.
