GVSC Fuels and Lubricants Research Facility

The Ground Vehicle Systems Center (GVSC) Fuels and Lubricants Research Facility (GFLRF), located at SwRI, is a government-owned contractor-operated (GOCO) facility that has provided state-of-the-art research, development and engineering services. We conduct fuels and lubricants research and development for the U.S. Army, Department of Defense, Department of Energy, other government agencies such as DARPA and commercial clients.

GFLRF is a stand-alone laboratory complex with capabilities for powertrain component testing and analytical chemistry offering custom research, development, engineering and testing services. In addition, clients benefit from a number of other SwRI specialized on-site facilities, such as light-duty vehicle emissions testing, heavy-duty vehicle chassis testing, fleet and fueling capabilities, mileage accumulations dynamometers, engine dynamometer cold testing, temperature-controlled vehicle test chambers, and a fully equipped fuel analysis laboratory. An on-site test track is available for various types of vehicle testing.

We solve a comprehensive range of fuel contamination and filtration problems. Our staff members are actively involved in major technical committees, and they are instrumental in developing and establishing standards used throughout the automotive industry. We provide research and development and bespoke testing services to commercial and government clients in a variety of contractual arrangements, including multi-client consortia, task order contracts, basic ordering agreements and off-site research and development services.

The mission of GFLRF is to provide the Department of Defense with the best resources for research, design, engineering, development and analysis of current and future fuel, lubricants and energy technologies.
