Coextrusion is an alternative form of atomization for microencapsulation using annular-jet technology. Using a concentric nozzle system, the annular jet first forms the core-shell droplets through axisymmetric breakup. The outer-shell droplet then solidifies to form a microcapsule shell. Southwest Research Institute offers multiple configurations, including stationary, vibrating nozzle, centrifugal, submerged nozzle, electrohydrodynamic (EHD) and microfluidic chip coextrusion.
