SwRI will be exhibiting at the CIDD Annual Drug Discovery Symposium. We will host two poster presentations.
“Improved Total Synthesis of Scopolamine and Atropine,” Shawn Blumberg
New chemical methodology was developed for the scalable synthesis of Scopolamine and Atropine, resulting in the shortest and highest yielding route to date. Future studies will improve the route to eventually allow a fully synthetic manufacturing alternative to isolation from natural sources.
“Optimization of Next Generation Filovirus Therapeutics,” Daniel Hinojosa
There are currently no FDA-approved treatments for filovirus infections, a lethal virus that leads to hemorrhagic fever with high mortality rates (25-90%). With Rhodium™, we screened 10 million small molecules to find safe & selective candidate compounds that disrupt the filovirus replication cycle. The approval of a broad-spectrum antiviral therapeutic will mitigate emerging viral biothreat agents such as filovirus.
