SwRI earns state VFW Employer of the Year Award

Apr. 25, 2008 — Southwest Research Institute® (SwRI®) has been selected to receive the Employer of the Year award (large private sector) for 2007-2008 by the Department of Texas Veterans of Foreign Wars. SwRI was recommended by the Texas Veterans Commission.

The award, given each year, recognizes employers "whose policies and achievements in hiring, promoting and training of veterans is outstanding, with special emphasis on disabled veterans."

"We're honored to be selected for this award," said SwRI President J. Dan Bates.

"SwRI has a long history of recognizing the importance of military service and the value of the employee veteran," said Bill Crumlett, executive director of the Human Resources Department. "We also recognize the importance of the citizen soldier and have policies in place to support staff members called to Guard or Reserve duty."

SwRI has received recognition in the past for its support of military service.

In 1995, SwRI's office at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, Utah, earned the American Legion's "Employer of the Year" national award for assistance provided to veterans by the office staff.

In 2002, SwRI received special recognition from the Department of Defense and the National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve for its continued support of the Guard and Reserve in Texas and the United States.

Formal presentation of the VFW award will be made during the Joint Opening Session of the organization's state convention, to be held June 26 in Dallas. SwRI is now automatically eligible for the national award, which will be announced at the VFW national convention in September.
