Microencapsulation is a common technology used to introduce controlled release properties into a variety of products, from pharmaceuticals to industrial applications. An overview of common processes will be presented as an introduction to the field of microencapsulation, along with the current gaps and challenges. New and emerging technologies will be highlighted with insight into the direction of microencapsulation research, development, and manufacturing.
