This tutorial will familiarize the attendee with the fundamentals of rotordynamics analysis. Concepts like imbalance response, critical speeds, cross-coupled stiffness, gyroscopics, and stability will be presented using simple models. Basic concepts are then extended and applied to large, multi-degree-of-freedom rotordynamics models for real machines with practical examples. API requirements for a rotordynamics analysis will also be presented.
